Wood-Fired Practice & Community

Trevor is a high school ceramics educator and practicing wood-fire potter who has chosen to cultivate a thriving wood-firing community in Woodbridge, Connecticut as both a creative and personal pursuit. Potters from across New England—and occasionally beyond—gather to participate in the collaborative, immersive processes that define this shared practice.

Over the course of months spent making, the group meets weekly to split and stack wood fuel in preparation for five- to seven-day firings. The loading of the kilns unfolds over two to four days of careful, deliberate work, with hundreds of pieces placed in consideration of flame path, thermal mass, and atmospheric flow.

Each firing cycle is both humbling and revelatory, offering new information, unexpected outcomes, and renewed perspective. Beyond the physical results, the process reinforces a deep sense of interdependence—reminding participants that a vast universe of potential emerges through shared labor, reflection, and commitment to the creative path.
